Learn about Indoor Cycling class and what goes on in one.

Most indoor cycling classes will have a Indoor Cycling instructor that leads everyone else in what exercises to do. There are different routines your instructor will give the class, like hills, climbing, sprinting, etc. There is usually music playing to keep you motivated and keep you in rhythm. Instructors often choose dance or rock music that is fast paced and set to 4/4 time beat so that you can use the beat to time your pedaling. The music tends to motivate everyone to push themselves harder than normal and the teacher will cheer you on to keep Indoor Cycling even when you are tired. Most classes last between 30 minutes and 1 hour. During a 45 minute class you will cycle approximately 13 miles, depending on how fast you pedal.

You will use a stationary Indoor Cycling bike that has a brake pad to change how difficult it is to pedal, and ways to adjust the bike so that it is comfortable. The pedals have straps that can hold your feet on the pedal. This way you can pull the pedals up and not just push them down.

How to Adjust your Bike

Banner 10000006It is important your bike is properly adjusted. If not, it can lead to injury or discomfort.

Seat Height:

While seated on the bike, your knees should be slightly bent in the down stroke position. If your leg is straight, the bike seat is too high and you will cause you to wobble from side to side during pedaling. If you leg is bent more than about 10-15 degrees then the seat is too low. Another way to tell is by standing next to your bike. The Indoor Cycling bike should be about 2 inches below your hip bone.

Handle Bars:

Your arms should be slightly bent when holding the handle bars. Although, this position is more a personal preference than the seat height.
